Full Force Productions presents “Untamed 24”  Gorman vs Escobar

Two legends of MMA in New England met for a bantamweight bout with major implications on the line on October 25th, 2008 at Mike True’s Full Force Productions 24th installment of “Untamed”. New England MMA Hall of Famer Mike Littlefield played Matchmaker for New England’s top promotion.  The fight between Paul Gorman (5-6)  and Leandro “Tatu” Escobar (5-3) was a highly touted fight at the time. I’ll explain…

In 2008, we approximately 4 different promotions you could fight for. Reality Fighting, Full Force, Combat Zone, and WFL. WFL was on the outs, Combat Zone was run by the crooked Bruce Marshall who was just a few years from drowning the company in booze and left only Reality and Full Force. The Untamed series took over as the perennial promotion in the area. They had the best fights and all the best fighters.

In 2008, the bantamweight division didnt exist nevermind the featherweight division. maybe 4 or five fighters took up the entire class in New England. Many “rematches” ocured back then and fighting was much different than it is now. Today is a much watered down version of what we had in 2008. you couldn’t pick opponents, you couldnt fight carefully, you fought the only guys you hadnt fought already and if you did, you fought them again. win or lose. Thus, Records were misleading and the greatest fighters truly stood out. I.e. (the Lauzons).

Paul Gorman was a great up and coming fighter. Stuck in a small man’s body, Gorman found himself fighting as heavy as lightweight yet walking around at 140lbs. His Jiu Jitsu pedigree under the tutelage of Jay Jack at The Academy of MMA in Maine had always kept him in fights. Constantly bouncing back and forth between fighting the #1 and #5 ranked fighters in New England and the Northeast, Gorman found an adversary his weight.

Leandro Escobar, better known as Tatu was a brilliant BJJ black belt out of Best Way Jiu Jitsu. Tatu stormed onto the scene in 2006 straight from Brazil. the bantamweight fighter ripped off 4 straight wins through the toughest fighters we had (Joe Cushman, Andrew Montanez, Tom Giove). In his third appearance for Full Force Tatu defeated Gorman in a controversial split decision. One year later Tatu met Gorman again in the main event of Untamed 24 from the beautiful Plymouth Memorial Hall.

Watch the video for the result of their second meeting and take a step back into 2008 with Full Force productions.
