Combat Zone 61: Resurrection “Event Preview and Predictions”

| April 13, 2017 | 0 Comments

Manchester, NH —Combat Zone makes its second appearance in its new home at the Raddison in Manchester, NH. This Saturday night is a special Easter eve event! A rash of unfortunate events have caused a severe shift from the early released fight card from months ago to now. However, Combat Zone lucked out, and its for the better. As title challenger Taylor Constantino was forced to withdraw from the main event due to health reasons. Stepping up to challenge the featherweight champion and New England’s top featherweight (Brendan Marotte 5-1) will be the #3 ranked featherweight in New England,  John Douma (4-2) of Rhode Island. Douma himself is a local New England featherweight champion and currently holds the Cage Titans Belt.

Lets break it down..

Im going to highlight a handful of the fights you’re not going to want to miss.

-Amateur Kickboxing bout

170 lbs. – Duncan Smith (0-0) Team Irish vs. Isaiah Ocasio (0-0) Ocasio’s Martial Arts

Ocasio makes his kickboxing debut saturday night. If you’re from the north shore of Massachusetts the name Ocasio is prevalent within the art of TKD up here. His family owns a very successful martial arts school and their lineage extends over several generations of great TKD fighters. Ocasio himself possesses lightening like quickness and precision in his kicks.

Ive said it many times before, and i’ll say it again. Nate Libby’s Team Irish are a group of tough MF’ers. Each and every one of his students will  fight tooth and nail and bludgeon you to death in search for a win. An unteachable trait uncharacteristicly in every fighter he has. although this is Duncan Smith’s debut fight, trust me, Nate has done his homework on Ocasio and wont throw a puppy to the wolves.

Prediction: Ocasio via decision (Experience prevails)

-Amateur Kickboxing bout

130 lbs. – Crystal Demers (1-0) Team Fury vs. Rachel Reinheimer (0-1) Sityodtong

Crystal Demers was impressive in her debut. She’s tall, athletic and strong as hell. good kicks and great pressure from the niece of Team Fury owner Lenny Demers. Crystal is the type of girl you want walking down a dark alley with. Her dubut fight was a unanimous decision win over Alex Walker. the much taller Demers likes to use her reach to her advantage and stalk her opponents. Here she faces Sityodtong veteran MMA fighter Rachel Reinheimer. Rachel is a game opponent that wont shy from Crystals stalking and push back for sure. This makes for a war! Expect this fight to get a bit sloppy as i see these two girls throwing heavy bombs when shit gets real.

Prediction: Crystal Demers via Decision

-Professional MMA

135 lbs.- Andy Aiello (3-2) Lauzon’s MMA vs. Chris Caterino (0-1) Gate City

Dont let the records fool you, These two fighters are long time Martial artists and far from new to the MMA scene in New England. Caterino and Aiello each have been training MMA for over ten years now. True veterans of the sport, their lack of cage time is nothing to worry about as the countless hours in the gym will provide us with plenty to talk about come Sunday morning. Two super tough, Super durable guys here and very well versed on the ground as the both come from two of the most well known names in New England MMA in Lauzon and Shakir respectfully. Believe it or not i expect to see a good amount of striking in this fight as i feel two good ground games may neutralize each other for the majority of the fight. I expect to see a clean finish in this one.

Prediction: Aiello via TKO

-Professional MMA Bout

160 lbs. – Brandon Odom 14-15 (All out Assault) vs. Vovka Clay (4-2) Triumph

Vovka was slated to fight in the co-main vs Taylor Trayhan at lightweight, but the beautiful gift of birth gave Trayhan the night off as we wish he and his wife great health to his newly born baby!

Vovka then accepted to fight Joe Clotier who’s fight with Nuri Shakir collapsed at the 11th hour. However, Cloutier declined and Vovka will now fight 20+ fight veteran Brandon Odom who will be flying in from Ohio on 1 days notice!

-Featherweight Title Bout

145 lbs. – John Douma (4-2) Tri-Force MMA vs. Brendon Marotte (5-1) PMA

It was inevitable that these two would meet one day as they each hold a local title and sit atop the amateur rankings. No common opponent to compare each to one another and they each couldnt be any different Douma, the rugged wrestler is a stocky fighter that likes to pressure (*the one thing they may have in common). Douma is battle tested and has a calmness about him when he’s in the cage that is hard to shake. Marotte, as i said is the opposite. Although they share the ability to pressure their opponents, Marotte is tall and uses his range very well. A seasoned striker, Marotte has been able to stifle the featherweight class and steal the show lately. A much improved ground game for the active and precise strikes makes Marotte a tough shell to crack. A battle between local champions is the best way this card can end.

Prediction: Marotte via decision
