GUIDE TO CES MMA 45 : Analysis, and full coverage

Lincoln, RI —CES 45 takes place Friday, August 11th from the Twin River Casino Event Center in Lincoln, RI. It’s Co-Headlined by two outstanding match-up’s with CES World titles on the line. In a battle of Heavyweight supremacy, CES Champion Ashley Gooch (10-5) is 8-2 in his last 10 bouts with 8 finishes. He is 2-0 under the guidance of CES with a major KO win over former #1 ranked Greg Rebello (20-6). Challenging Gooch for the heavyweight strap is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu ace Julianno “Banana” Coutinho (7-3). “Banana” is 2-0 in CES and a BJJ Black Belt under Daniel Gracie.

A fight that has been a long time coming, Saul Almeida (19-8) meets Pedro Gonzalez (12-5) for the CES MMA Interim Featherweight Title. Gonzalez sports a 2-0 record in CES and a winner of 5 straight fights, all finishes, all via choke. An outstanding statistic, Gonzalez hold 11 of his 12 wins via choke (10-Guillotine). A daunting 27 fights at only 28 years old, Saul Almieda may be best known for being an interpreter and training partner of former UFC Champion Jose’ Aldo. Now a member of the prestigious team Sityodtong, Almeida looks to bring home gold of his own.

New England’s Top ranked lightweight #1  Nate Andrews (10-1) meets WSOF veteran and #9 ranked lightweight Bruce Boyington (14-10) in a main card featured bout. A veteran of 24 bouts Boyington is a multi-time national TKD champion and possesses the speed and adgility to earn a sudden KO at any time when he fights. Andrews appears to be on the verge of getting a call to the UFC soon, Specutively speaking. A win here can catapult him to the big leagues, but a loss could be devastating!

In a featured welterweight bout, Cranston, RI’s Gary “Tiger” Balletto (3-1) will clash heads with Hooksett, NH’s Nick Alley (3-1). Balletto rides a three fight win streak as Alley comes into the bout off of his first professional loss. Of each of their three wins both fighters have proven to be finishers with six finishes combined. Balletto has never not finished an opponent outside of the first round.

Three undefeated prospects will all look to keep their records unblemished in their respective weight classes Friday night. First in the flyweight division, Richie Santiago  (4-0) of Milford, Ma. fights Miguel Restrepo (4-3) of Miami, FL. Restrepo is 3-1 at his more natural flyweight. Santiago looks to improve to 5-0 and join teammate Carlos Candalario atop the flyweight ranks in the nation.

Next in the bantamweight division, the always exciting Kris Moutinho (4-0) takes on Mckean, Penn. native Brandon “Soku” Seyler (6-5-1). Moutinho, Like his teammate Santiago, is also a native of nearby Milford, Ma. the undefeated top prospect in the bantamweight division is a former 3 division amateur champion and looks to improve to 5-0 friday night against Seyler.

Finally in the featherweight division, a protégé of Olympian Rick Hawn, Dylan Lockard (3-0) returns to CES to face Journeyman and 15-fight veteran Ahsan Abdullah (7-8). Lockard, a former collegiate wrestler fighting out of the small town of Hampstead, NH looks to improve to 4-0 and extend an unbeaten streak that now expands over 3 years and 7-0 overall. Abdullah fights out of the famed Bombsquad gym where UFC Lightweight champion Jon Jones originated from in Cortland , NY.
